All That Matters is the Touch of God!

All That Matters is The Touch of God! When I make a statement like this some may begin to think that perhaps I am being a bit extreme. Then others may think that there are other things that matter. In response to this I say, “Tell me what else really matters.” The insight I want to bring is that our understanding of the touch of God” needs to be broadened.

Acts 17:24-25 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;…

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being;…

Oh my! How can we get away from the involvement of God in our lives? The truth is, in Him we live and move and have our very existence. In Him and from Him we get strength to do, think and act.

First the Natural, Then the Spiritual

Do you realize that one of the very first mentions of a human being touched by God had nothing to do with someone who was called to teach or preach? It had nothing to do with a person being empowered to prophesy. Rather it had to do with a clothing maker. That’s right, a tailor! Almighty God poured His precious Spirit upon a tailor who was given the task to make garments for the priests! It wasn’t his ability to make clothes that mattered. It was the touch of God that mattered. It was the touch of God that took him to the next level in his tailoring business so to speak.(Exodus 28:3). When I refer to the touch of God I am really speaking about the purpose of God. This man’s gift was to make clothes but his unique purpose was to make special garments for Aaron and the priests.

You Have Been Touched by God for a Purpose

The joy of life is when you finally discover that purpose. Sometimes you are hot and sometimes you are cold. Sometimes we get closer to discovering it than at other times. No matter what, no time is wasted. The more earnestly we seek God to know what we have been assigned to accomplish, the more fulfillment we experience. The real fun starts when we connect with our purpose. The reason you have been created is where the touch of God is most apparent.

Never Compare Yourself With Others

One of the thieves of joy in life is covetousness. Never compare what you have to what someone else has or your abilities to what someone else can do. If your assignment was to have influence in the earth as a professional athlete or an ice skater, then you would have been given what is needed to do just that. If you are called to broker publicly traded company acquisitions and Wall Street mergers, then that area of your life would be touched by God. You can be content with who you are because who you are and what you have been assigned to do is really all that matters ultimately.

A Liberating Thought

Let me conclude with the following story. As a young man I dreamed of being a major player in the business world. I ate, slept and drank business from a very young age. No matter what the business challenge was, I have always believed that I have the mind to overcome it. It’s like I would run towards the opportunity to solve a problem. It is simply how I’ve been personally wired. Then I ran into some hypothetical corporate-level challenges that were over my head. I knew that if I were involved that I would have had to reach out to people who operated in that area of expertise. It was heart wrenching to think that I did not have the understanding in the realm of economics that I was being attracted to. I soberly accepted the fact that some deals that I needed to be put together were out of my league.

Though I still have business interests today, I am a Senior Pastor and a Missionary Evangelist to the nations. I’m not on Wall Street. My job doesn’t involve being a corporate analyst or financial regulator but as I was reading some articles in Barron’s Financial Weekly and the Wall Street Journal my old file came up. I thought to myself, wow Lord. I don’t know how to do those things at that level. (You do know that God speaks back don’t you). Just as soon as I had that crippling thought, the Holy Spirit said to me, “You don’t have to know that. I didn’t call you to do those things. If I did, you would be able to do that which you’re dreading over and more.” (It was something very close to these words.) As I was sharing this with my wife, we both were so ecstatic because we realized that all that matters is the touch of God in our lives. What we have been called to do, is what we have been anointed to do. We have had our spirit, soul and bodies touched in a way that will allow us to bring the desired glory to His name in the areas that we are responsible for. The same is true for you! Begin to recognize that part of your life that has been touched by God and enjoy life’s journey.

All That Matters is The Touch of God Part 2, will follow next month. Blessings in the interim!
